@ryryamin yes, but even if you created the character, if you don't draw them for a very long time, there's a chance you may very well forget what they look like.
Heh, when I and a friend of mine were going to revamp one of our characters, I spent hours just doodling my ideas in dilapidated old sketchbooks, and now I can't make head nor tail of them. I, for one, am still enthralled in that kid's secondary ears.
That's why you keep a reference folder handy at all times. Even if they're your own characters. And when you character count exceeds 10, each with their own vastly unique body, face, hair, and clothing type, it's not just a good idea. It's a requirement!
