Most if not all of my teachers knew if I was drawing in class, I'd finished the classwork for the next week already. And when the students complained, the teachers would point out "She already got everything done and we haven't even covered that section yet. What's your lame excuse?"
If I do this I tend to focus more on the doodles than the notes when studying so I try to get creative with the notes instead.(tables, diagrams, squiggly separators, neon colours..)I also tend to keep a notebook on my desk for doodles.(I can never be in a class without doodling unless the subject is really interesting.)
I have the same habit! My notebooks from high school are filled with as many random doodles and drawings as actual work for each class. A couple classes I actually spent more time playing Sudoku on my DS than taking notes, and still passed with very good marks
My teacher is very tolerant and understanding, so she said it was okay for me to draw in class, because she believed that that was the best way for me to listen while learning. Some teachers don't believe me when I say I'm allowed... That has dragged me into trouble several times.. XD
I always told my students that, as long as they didn't distract or disrupt me or other students, they could do whatever they wanted. Doodle, Facebook, CoD - whatever.
I believe students are responsible for their own actions and the consequences of those actions.
Of course, I taught college; so I had more control than most public school teachers are allowed.
(The only exception was during other people's presentations. I wanted everyone to respect the speaker.)
