so true, especially getting back Maths test papers...

Some people talk to themselves out loud... It's aparently just the kind of character she is.
Also, with the hand, it's just stylization. The back hand is bigger because it's making a dramatic motion, and so is the center of attention.
That's why it's a comic and not a Renaissance painting.
