Eurovision 2012
I can't believe we don't watch Eurovision in America. I had never heard of it till I visited London. I voted for Iceland because all the other countries I knew had already been claimed by everyone else.
Iceland didn't do very well...

@Kcatty Yea, maybe. But most of the songs in this competition are very similar.. at least I think so.
Everyone was very surprised that Iceland wasn't higher on the list.. but it's always these eastern European countries that work together.

@FooFighter I dunno, from what I've seen of winning songs...but maybe I haven't seen enough of Eurovision to really tell. I thought the setup was similar, at least. Anyway, the song was good, I liked it.
Maybe I've been a little overexposed to Rybak - whenever my brother sees a link to one of his songs (as youtube likes to do) when I'm watching some other video, he bugs me until I let him watch Fairytale. And every other Rybak song out there. Over and over again.

@Kcatty No I don't think we were copying Rybak. There are violins in many songs and Rybak was a few years ago. The woman who sang the song is a pro violinist and she made the song.. so she probably just wanted to play the violin I guess?

@phoenix92 Shouldn't that be, y'know, every year? We're one of the most disliked countries in Europe by historical standards, and yet we're always surprised when people don't vote for us XD

My sister and I discovered it a few years ago, and my baby brother LOVES it.
It's not that Eurovision's unknown in the US, it's just that most people here aren't interested in European news (unless it's bad for the US), and so those of us who do like Eurovision, or watch it at least, can't find people who're interested in it. When somebody at my school knew who Alexander Rybak was...I was impressed. And happy.
I like Eurovision because even if the songs aren't amazing, I think they're better than what the pop machines in America are turning out right now.
I liked Iceland's song, but the violin...felt too much like copying Rybak, which it probably was.

Probably the reason that you don't have it is because... well... it kinda sucks.
Most of the people here only watch it just to release some built up cynicism.
